Philanthropy

Latin America is composed of 20 nations with a combined population of over 580 million, and contains five large international destination cities — Mexico City, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Lima. While Brazil and Mexico are among the top 20 in the world in terms of gross domestic product for 2009 according to World Bank statistics, inequality and poverty continue to be challenges throughout Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

Leveraging his business experience, Daniel Chavez Moran founded the Grupo Vidanta Foundation (Spanish: Fundación Grupo Vidanta), a non-profit institution whose primary aim is the promotion of social sciences and culture with a focus on creating a sustainable economic future for the people of Latin America. The Foundation began its activities in 2005 under the name of Grupo Mayan Foundation. As of May 1, 2008, it adopted its present name to better reflect the numerous institutions comprising the Grupo Vidanta.

Under the able leadership of Roberto Russell and an international advisory committee, Grupo Vidanta Foundation engages educators, economists and political leaders from the international community in dialogue with the goals of:

  • Generating and spreading awareness of the factors determining the gap in political, economic and social development that holds Latin America back from the standards of economic growth and welfare that characterize developed countries
  • Promoting the study of intra-Latin American relations and the strategies to integrate Latin America with the rest of the world
  • Actively influencing the formulation of public policies designed to strengthen democracy, promote economic and social development and reduce social inequality in Latin America.

The Grupo Vidanta Foundation focuses on three primary areas of activity to achieve its goals:

  • Hosting international seminars and conferences on strategies and projects to support sustainable economic growth in Latin America. Read More >
  • Awarding prizes in recognition and support for outstanding projects in Latin America and the Caribbean to reduce poverty, inequality and discrimination. Read More >

Fundación Delia Moran A.C.

Daniel Chavez Moran also seeks to improve the lives of those less fortunate. Toward this goal, Chavez Moran created Fundación Delia Moran A.C. in 2002 to provide assistance to children ages 6 to 12 whose day-to-day life is a constant struggle. The foundation is named in honor of his mother, a great teacher who dedicated her life to helping children combat the destructive combination of ignorance and poverty. It has opened numerous cultural and educational centers to provide these children with medical assistance and opportunities so that they can become healthy, contributing members of the community.
